The airing date that we “appear” on “The Price is Right” Show with Drew Carey was scheduled for December 16th. No… we’re not on the stage as contestants…we were seated in the VIP Seats right BEHIND the Contestants, 2nd row from the stage, and on-camera every time the Contestants are viewed, standing or sitting! We had a great time – without waiting in the long lines for 12 or more HOURS to get in….as most fans do! Many drove 12-16 hours straight down from CANADA, just for a chance to get into the audience and potentially selected to be on the Show!

The Grand Showcase Winner, Julie, from our taping went on to have an immediate guest appearance walk-on part on "The Bold & The Beautiful" which aired November 19. She also won a trip to South Africa and big bucks! What a day! View the clip here.

VIP: It helps to be good friends with the Catering Manager for CBS Studios…. All in the same day, my dear friend gave us a private tour during filming of the soap operas “The Bold & Beautiful” and “The Young & The Restless”…. plus the catering kitchens (my niece is graduating from a Culinary College in Santa Cruz), the set design department, the executive private lounges… the prizes backstage for “The Price is Right” that day… and oh yeah… and the dress rehearsal for “Dancing with the Stars!” with shirtless Brazilian Flamenco Dancers! Plus, we had a delightful lunch in the Stars’ Café… alongside the soap opera celebrities and crew.

Frankfurt remained the central and undisputed European book fair city through to the 17th century. In the course of political and cultural upheaval, in the 18th century Leipzig then came to play the part. In 1949, that early Frankfurt book fair tradition was given a new lease of life: 205 German exhibitors assembled on Sept. 18-23 in Frankfurt’s Paulskirche for the first post-War book fair. Almost 60 trade-fair years later, the Frankfurt Book Fair is the largest of its kind in the world – and the hallmark for global activities in the field of culture. With year-round services and information offerings for the international trade, the Frankfurt Book Fair has thus emerged as the world-wide market place for ideas – 365 days a year. In 2007, there were 283,293 visitors to the 5-day event.

Evaluating What We See and Hear in Today’s Media

There is a lot of information available to us at this time in history, more than ever before, and it travels fast. We are able to learn in the blink of an eye about something that happened halfway around the world, and it’s natural for us to want to know what’s going on.

However, it’s also fair to say that we don’t want to become so caught up in one way of looking at events that we lose perspective. Often, the news comes to us in a very fear-oriented format, and when too many of us get caught up in fear, the balance of the whole is disrupted.

It helps to remember that we have a much greater and more positive impact on the world when we maintain our inner sense of peace and joy.

We are aware enough to know when we are eating something that is not good for us, because we don’t feel well after we’ve eaten it. In the same way, we can determine for ourselves whether the sources in which our information comes are ultimately healthful. News can be presented in a way that inspires us to take positive action to help the world, or it can be presented in a way that leaves us feeling powerless and sad. It is up to us to seek out and support media that empowers and informs us, and to say no to media that drains our energy and our hope.

For a time, it may even be of benefit to commit to a media fast, in which we stop taking information in for a time to give ourselves a rest. When we return to the task of taking in and processing the information all around us, we will come to it with a fresh mind. This will enable us to really notice how we are affected by what we hear and see, and to make conscious choices about the sources of information that we allow into our lives.

CARLSBAD, CA (01/29/2008– To celebrate International Coaching Week, February 3-9, 2008, the San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance (SDPCA) launches its new speaker’s bureau service. As part of SDPCA’s community outreach effort, volunteer member coaches will offer a highly engaging and informative presentation designed to educate individuals and businesses owners about the field of coaching.

If you always wondered what business or life coaches do and how they can help you, then invite a member of San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance (SDPCA) speakers bureau to address your company, professional organization or community group. One of our speakers will come to your site and explain how a supportive relationship with a trained professional can enhance your ability to learn, make desired changes, solve problems, and achieve goals. This presentation is offered at no cost and delivered by one of our board or committee team members, based on availability.

“Our members are very skilled and will give you a clear picture of the coach’s job. They’ll demonstrate that a coach’s primary role is to ask questions and suggest alternatives—not provide advice or design solutions,” says Elizabeth Fried, Ph.D., marketing and public relations board member for SDPCA, and president of The Learning Engine, an executive assessment, development, and coaching firm. “The goal is to guide clients to discover their own unique answers and choose their own paths. A coach may provide ideas, expertise, and skill-building techniques, but doesn’t solve clients’ problems for them, nor tell them what to do.”

Take the opportunity to network with others and gain leading-edge information from our invited speaker. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at the Courtyard by Marriott in Kearny Mesa, (858) 573-0700, located at 8651 Spectrum Center Blvd., San Diego, CA 92111. The week is acknowledged in Chase’s Calendar of Events, and it’s the perfect time to educate the public about the value of working with a coach. Coaches around the world schedule community events, pro bono coaching, and workshops to promote coaching during this time.

Sheryl Roush is a Past President of SDPCA, the San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance, the San Diego Chapter of ICF, international Coach Federation, and comments that during this highllighted week, professional coaches offer complimentary coaching sessions for the public to experience quality coaching and empower their life and dreams to become reality.

This year marks the 10th annual International Coaching Week, originally was started in 1999 by Coach Jerri Udelson, an Master Certified Coach from Santa Fe, NM who specializes in helping entrepreneurs and professionals create successful businesses and live fulfilling lives.

Its purpose is to provide a week each year to educate the public about the value of working with a personal, business or executive coach and to provide an opportunity for coaches and their clients to acknowledge the results and progress made through the coaching process. Coaches offer a variety of activities and pro bono services in their communities during the week, including free coaching sessions, lectures and workshops.

Brief History.. from Jerri

In 1999 I created International Coaching Week as a way to promote the profession of coaching. My intention was to designate a week each year in which coaches could both celebrate and publicize coaching by offering community events, tele-events and pro bono coaching. Originally the week was named National Personal and Business Coaching Week and it was listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events (a major PR tool), and held the first week of February, 1999.

In year 2000 Canadian coaches wanted to participate, so I changed the name to International Personal and Business Coaching Week; in 2000 the International Coach Federation (ICF) helped publicize it by featuring it in their newsletter and sending special Coaching Week broadcasts to members and chapters.

In 2001 the ICF prepared a sample press release for coaches to customize and use to publicize the week and also gave ICF members a list of suggested events (e.g. pro bono coaching, free tele-classes, etc.) to inspire them to participate in their own way. Also that year Thomas Leonard picked up the idea and ran with it. He created a Coaching Week page on his Coachville website, designed a logo, and offered to put coaches’ press releases on the page as well as a summary of Coaching Week events.

In 2002 Thomas created a CoachingWeek.com website, and invited coaches to post their events and press releases on it. I continued to network with the ICF, Coachville and with a number of coaches with large newsletters to promote the Week.

Coaching Week really began to take off in 2002: That year it was celebrated throughout the US, Canada and in Hong Kong, with coaches offering a variety of pro bono services in their communities, including free coaching sessions, lectures and workshops. (In Richmond, VA, the mayor issued an official proclamation; in Boulder, CO, two coaches offered a free workshop for high school seniors and college freshmen on “Majoring in the Rest of your Life;” New Jersey coaches offered 13 different events during the week.)

From 2003 onward the ICF began to officially sponsor the Week, assembling a Coaching Week Task Force, announcing the Week to chapters and generating additional publicity.

In 2007 the ICF released the results from the PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Coaching Survey during Coaching Week. Last year I created a website and blog, CoachingWeek.org, on which coaches and ICF Chapters could post their Coaching Week-related activities.

I am really pleased that so many coaches are participating in International Coaching Week. It is very gratifying to know that so many people are offering pro bono coaching and other community events in such a heartfelt way. When I started National Coaching Week in 1999 I had no idea that it would soon take on a life of its own. I really am delighted that this Week is becoming a focal point for both publicizing coaching worldwide and providing the public with a sense of the possibilities that coaching offers.

Blogger Deb Simpson wrote a beautiful post about Sheryl Roush and the Heart of the Holidays book.
Sheryl Roush Releases Heart of the Holidays Book is presented by Debra Simpson at North San Diego Business@Large. Debra says, “San Diego native Sheryl Roush has lead an interesting life and reflects that in the books she publishes.”

Sheryl Roush’s rise in professional speaking, and now as a published author is inspiring. Her early years were hard, filled with tragedy. Yet, she overcame those obstacles and now, with unbridled enthusiasm for life, she uplifts and motivates the best in others.

Sheryl owned several businesses, since age 16, before becoming a full-time inspirational, motivational keynote speaker. Her current business, Sparkle Presentations, an international seminar and training company, offering inspirational programs that rekindle the spirit, raise the bar, and create excitement.

A few years ago, Sheryl came up with an idea to reach out to the women’s community and ask for contributions which she complied into Heart of a Woman, her first book in the Heart Book Series. It was followed by Heart of a Mother, recounting stories, poems and thoughts about motherhood.

Her current book, Heart of the Holidays, has just been released. To celebrate the release, and give readers a taste of the stories, poems and memories, Sheryl held a book signing event at two Borders this past week.

One of the remarkable things about Sheryl is the ease with which she creates information products. She’s the author of over 40 resources, including audiotapes, CDs, video, CD-Rom, and DVDs. It’s been amazing over the years to watch as she pours her heart into her products. She’s a shining example of how a professional speaker should run a business.

Her other books include Sparkle-Tudes! (scripture plus quotations by and for women), and Heart of a Woman (stories and poems celebrating our inner strength, wisdom and faith). Sheryl is also a contributor to The Princess Principle: Women Helping Women Discovering their Royal Spirit.

She’s coached many in public speaking, training, marketing, business and is the creator of the Olympic Training Center Speakers Bureau, the AIDS/Foundation-San Diego Speakers Bureau, and the Director of Training, US/Olympic Training Center, Chula Vista, CA, volunteer position coaching 30 Olympians and volunteers in public speaking.
Twice honored for her service to women in the community, Sheryl was crowned “Ms. Heart of San Diego” and is this year’s “Queen of Hope.” She’s a remarkable woman, someone I’m proud to all a friend. Now you know her too!
