Sci-Fi Celebrity Charity Auction Benefits American Cancer Society

Benefits American Cancer Society
On December 6-7, gallery owner Gary Hasson held his 9th annual event in support of the American Cancer Society. Known as LIGHTSPEED FINE ART’S CELEBRITY CHARITY BENEFIT, it hosted a number of actors from science fiction television and motion pictures. With an "invitation-only" attendance, 250 loyal clients of Lightspeed Fine Art gathered in Southern California to support this most deserving charity amongst food and merriment with musical entertainment.
Saturday opened with a special screening of "Will You Sign This, Please?" by Robert Picardo, from Star Trek: Voyager, and now on Stargate Atlantis. His new live comedy DVD is "Bootleg Bob." Picardo shown here with auctioneer Marc Lee.
Following the "Holographic Doctor," crewmate Tim Russ "Tuvok" and his pop rock and blues band performed a stellar concert.
Celebrities appearing Saturday for autographing, photo opportunities, and auction donations included:
Michael Shanks, "Dr. Daniel Jackson," Corin Nemec and Beau Bridges from Stargate SG:1; Dominic Keating, Connor Trinneer, Anthony Montgomery and Gary Graham from Star Trek: Enterprise; Menina Fortunato, one of the dancing green-skinned Orion Slave Girls from Star Trek: Enterprise; Michael Welch, who starred as the Young Jack O’Neill on Stargate SG:1 and in Star Trek: Insurrection; Denise Crosby, "Tasha Yar" on Star Trek: The Next Generation
I had the personal privilege of working with Michael Shanks as his assistant at his signing table. The conversations he had with fans were respectful, jovial and memorable. Watch for his appearances in Burn Notice beginning in January.
Many of the above celebrities also attended the special dinner that evening, joined by Rod Roddenberry, son of late Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek. Pictured here: "Rod and Berry" comic strip artist David Reddick (also of Garfield fame), Sheryl Roush (me) and Rod Roddenberry.
Rod is passionately working on his feature film about fans, "Trek Nation."
Picture (left): Michael Shanks with an adoring fan. An event as "intimate" as this allows fans and stars to have conversations, and professional photos taken…. PRICELESS!
Celebrities appearing Sunday included:
Brent Spiner "Commander Data" Star Trek: The Next Generation; Chris Judge (right) and Beau Bridges from Stargate SG:1; Kandyse McClure and Aaron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica; Andrew Robinson from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Jeffrey Combs, Star Trek: Enterprise (a blue-skinned Andorian) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Aron Eisenberg "Nog" on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and William Morgan Sheppard, Star Trek and Babylon 5;
and seen here surrounded by adoring fans, Eric Avari, Stargate SG:1 (the movie and the series) and The Mummy.
Pictured left: Brent Spiner auctioning off a real working script from a Star Trek movie!
Celebrities appearing both days:
Julie Caitlin Brown and Stephen Austin from Babylon 5; Andrea Thompson, from Babylon 5 and JAG; Douglas Arthurs, a G’ould from Stargate SG:1
Artists Keith Birdsong, Michael David Ward, and David Reddick were on-site all weekend sketching and meeting art collectors. Pictured: Keith Birdsong working on a new poster release. (Yes – that’s Kirk, Khan and Spock!) Order your print now through Lightspeed!

San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance Celebrates
International Coaching Week and Launches Speakers Bureau to address Organizations on Value of Coaching
News release from San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance
For more information contact: Dr. Elizabeth Fried, 760-633-4444Speakers Bureau Launched for International Coaching Week
CARLSBAD, CA (01/29/2008– To celebrate International Coaching Week, February 3-9, 2008, the San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance (SDPCA) launches its new speaker’s bureau service. As part of SDPCA’s community outreach effort, volunteer member coaches will offer a highly engaging and informative presentation designed to educate individuals and businesses owners about the field of coaching.
If you always wondered what business or life coaches do and how they can help you, then invite a member of San Diego Professional Coaches Alliance (SDPCA) speakers bureau to address your company, professional organization or community group. One of our speakers will come to your site and explain how a supportive relationship with a trained professional can enhance your ability to learn, make desired changes, solve problems, and achieve goals. This presentation is offered at no cost and delivered by one of our board or committee team members, based on availability.
“Our members are very skilled and will give you a clear picture of the coach’s job. They’ll demonstrate that a coach’s primary role is to ask questions and suggest alternatives—not provide advice or design solutions,” says Elizabeth Fried, Ph.D., marketing and public relations board member for SDPCA, and president of The Learning Engine, an executive assessment, development, and coaching firm. “The goal is to guide clients to discover their own unique answers and choose their own paths. A coach may provide ideas, expertise, and skill-building techniques, but doesn’t solve clients’ problems for them, nor tell them what to do.”
To engage a speaker for your group, contact Dr. Fried at 760-633-4444.
SPDCA has approximately 150 members, with an expected growth of 10 percent this year. Guests are encouraged to attend one of our monthly meetings. Take the opportunity to network with others and gain leading-edge information from our invited speaker. Meetings are held on the second Monday of every month at the Courtyard by Marriott in Kearny Mesa, (858) 573-0700, located at 8651 Spectrum Center Blvd., San Diego, CA 92111. Meeting registration and networking at 9:30 – 10:00 am, meeting and guest speaker at 10:00 am – Noon. No pre-registration is required. Coaches-in-Action follows from 12:15 – 1:00 pm. For general information about the SDPCA, go to www.SanDiegoCoaches.com
The cost to attend is $20 per meeting for guests. Cash, credit card or a check made out to SDPCA are accepted forms of payment. Meetings are free to paid SDPCA members. Membership is $100 per year.
Holiday Gifts Educating AIDS Orphans in Africa
Charities, Heart of the Holidays, Tips & Trivia| No Comments »Educating the Children
Some years ago, I stopped sending holiday greeting cards and most corporate gifts. The budget for these items has been re-purposed (has a nice ring to it) and is now being used to educate AIDS orphans in Africa. An annual gift of $25 provides — you won’t believe this but it’s true — tuition, shoes, books and a uniform for 1 student. Your cards and presents have become educational tools. Thanks.
-John Reddish, Advent Management Int’l.
There are NUMEROUS SITES posted on Google – pick and choose how YOU would like to participate. I Googled "AIDS orphans in Africa" and there were 1,370,000 links.
