Sci-Fi Celebrity Charity Auction
Benefits American Cancer Society

On December 6-7, gallery owner Gary Hasson held his 9th annual event in support of the American Cancer Society.  Known as LIGHTSPEED FINE ART’S CELEBRITY CHARITY BENEFIT, it hosted a number of actors from science fiction television and motion pictures. With an "invitation-only" attendance, 250 loyal clients of Lightspeed Fine Art gathered in Southern California to support this most deserving charity amongst food and merriment with musical entertainment.

Saturday opened with a special screening of "Will You Sign This, Please?" by Robert Picardo, from Star Trek: Voyager, and now on Stargate Atlantis.  His new live comedy DVD is "Bootleg Bob." Picardo shown here with auctioneer Marc Lee.

Following the "Holographic Doctor," crewmate Tim Russ "Tuvok" and his pop rock and blues band performed a stellar concert.

Celebrities appearing Saturday for autographing, photo opportunities, and auction donations included:
Michael Shanks
, "Dr. Daniel Jackson," Corin Nemec and Beau Bridges from Stargate SG:1; Dominic Keating, Connor Trinneer, Anthony Montgomery and Gary Graham from Star Trek: Enterprise; Menina Fortunato, one of the dancing green-skinned Orion Slave Girls from Star Trek: Enterprise; Michael Welch, who starred as the Young Jack O’Neill on Stargate SG:1 and in Star Trek: Insurrection; Denise Crosby, "Tasha Yar" on Star Trek: The Next Generation

I had the personal privilege of working with Michael Shanks as his assistant at his signing table. The conversations he had with fans were respectful, jovial and memorable. Watch for his appearances in Burn Notice beginning in January.

Many of the above celebrities also attended the special dinner that evening, joined by Rod Roddenberry, son of late Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek. Pictured here: "Rod and Berry" comic strip artist David Reddick (also of Garfield fame), Sheryl Roush (me) and Rod Roddenberry.
Rod is passionately working on his feature film about fans, "Trek Nation."

; Kandyse McClure and Aaron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica; Andrew Robinson from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Jeffrey Combs, Star Trek: Enterprise (a blue-skinned Andorian) and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; Aron Eisenberg "Nog" on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; and William Morgan Sheppard, Star Trek and Babylon 5;

MOVIE PREMIER: Stargate Continuum

I had the privilege of seeing Stargate CONTINUUM movie premiere on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier museum Thursday night… seated in the 300-person audience with the cast, producer and director.

In conjunction with San Diego’s annual Comic-Con, the event opened with Red Carpet media interviews amidst the aircraft on deck. Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) and Ben Browder commented the felt right at home. TV Guide and Sci-Fi Channel reporters and numerous others were present. (Red Carpet photo: Richard Dean Anderson with Martin Wood.)

CONTINUUM cast present also included Amanda Tapping (now a stunning brunette for her role in SANCTUARY series release on Sci-Fi October 3rd), Michael Shanks and talented wife Lexa Doig (“Dr. Lam” and “Rommie” on Andromeda), Cliff Simon and wife Collette, Beau Bridges with wife and daughter, Christopher Judge (with full, long hair), and SG:1/Atlantis’ Doctor Jewel Staite gorgeous as ever in a short dress and heels), and Robert Picardo, dashing in his leather beret. We missed Claudia Black who was not present. And more so, recently deceased and adored by fans Don S. Davis, who cameos in the movie.

Director and Producer Martin Wood and Brad Wright were present for the special engagement.

Friday at Comic-Con, the stars signed free CONTINUUM posters at the Stargate Worlds’ gaming booth, complete with stunning Stargate exhibit. Photo shows Sheryl Roush with Dan Elggren, Studio Head of Stargate Worlds (www.StargateWords.com). They also showed in force for a Stargate Panel…. with Ben Browder walking out on stage an kissing Michael Shanks on the lips. Although Chris behaved himself, Michael Shanks was ready to drop his drawers…. (had to be there….)

Stargate Atlantis had its own Panel on Friday, with Jewel Stait, Robert Picardo and Joe Flanigan, with lively dialogue and asnwering questions from fans.

Also invited to attend the VIP Party in the Hangar Bay following the premier, I had great conversations with the stars.

The movie is available Tuesday on DVD on BluRay.

Visions for Tomorrow brings together leaders in science, technology, art, architecture, education and policy to champion a fresh and hopeful outlook on the future and to advance the idea that individuals can affect significant and positive change.

Recognizing the rapid pace at which yesterday’s science fiction is becoming today’s and tomorrow’s science fact, SCI FI Channel has launched a new public affairs initiative, Visions for Tomorrow, to inspire individuals, organizations, corporations and policymakers to meet the growing challenges of the future.

With the prevalence of war and global terrorism, the increasing frequency of natural disasters, and the impact of overpopulation and environmental degradation, there is growing public concern over our ability to solve these seemingly intractable problems. To address these powerful challenges, SCI FI believes the world needs — now more than ever — an optimistic vision of the future.

Through on-air public service announcements, off-channel symposia, Web sites, educational curricula and advocacy-based public affairs efforts, SCI FI is heralding a bold, new optimistic vision for tomorrow.

Visions for Tomorrow will:

SUPPORT local, state and national programs that spur entrepreneurship and innovation.

CHAMPION the notion that individuals can have a significant, positive impact on humankind.

INVESTIGATE an anthology of ideas for improving life on Earth.

FOSTER an environment for educators and students to create innovative ways to improve the quality of life in their communities or to enhance the well-being of people in general.

INCREASE the chances for individuals to meet the challenges of the future.
